How to take care of your Pug puppy

How to take care of your Pug puppy

Pugs are amongst the most-in demand dog breed and quite frankly, it's hard to resist their expressive, cute looking face! However, pug puppies require a lot of care and attention, as their first six months are where they learn and grow the most

Pug Puppy care tips

Training your pug puppy

Start training your pup to follow your commands from day one. Be firm but affectionate and encourage your pug every time they respond successfully. A puppy treat or two can help!

Their attention span being limited at a very young age, keep the sessions short (5 to 10 minutes).

As for potty training, just like every pup, your pug needs to learn to control their bladder. Take them out every few hours to avoid any accident at home!

Pug Puppy grooming

Pugs have a double coat that is continuously shedding and require a bit more grooming than some other breeds. Try to brush your pug puppy at least twice a week. Pugs usually love water so bathing them shouldn't be a chore! To keep your pup's sensitive skin while maintaining a soft, healthy and natural coat, use this FuzzYard Puppy Shampoo

Due to their narrow ear canals, pugs are prone to ear infections. Use soft tissues to wipe their ears clean and dry. If your pug is shaking their head violently whilst you're doing this, it might be a sign of an ear infection and it's best to take them to the vet.

Pug wrinkles cleaning

Folds, or pug wrinkles, tend to accumulate mucous, dirt, tear, food etc. We can only recommend getting your pug used to having their folds cleaned in their first weeks.

You can use baby wipes and dip them in a cup of water. Run the moist tip through the wrinkles to get rid of any unwanted particle.

How about exercise?

Most pugs are actually overweight for their size, so exercise is a health necessity! They need daily walks and the more you stimulate them to play and be active, the better. Getting a few puppy toys can help you get them moving.

Feeding your pup

Pug puppies under 6 months should be fed 3 times a day with puppy foods that have the perfect balance of nutrients to support their development.

At MyPetSays we are proud to be offering our own, high quality pet food range with natural ingredients and no preservatives. We have several variety of puppy foods, from grain free to super premium and all natural.
